Home Security at Christmas
We all love to have our presents placed around the Christmas tree but be aware, with hundreds of pounds maybe even thousands spent on gifts for loved ones, a burglary at this time of year would be extremely hard to recover from, financially and emotionally!
This time of year, is perfect for opportunistic burglars.
What simple, cost-effective measures can we take to help protect our home at this time of year?
If your Christmas tree is visible from a window maybe wait till the Christmas eve before displaying all those expensive gifts around the tree, don’t make your home a target.
Even if you’re only popping out for 5 minutes, always lock the door behind you!
I know it sounds obvious but we attend many calls where the front door has been left unlocked for a few minutes and a thief has entered grabbed the nearest item, handbag or car keys etc and then ran off.
Make sure all external entry points have a high level of security that meet home insurance requirements.

If you can’t afford the expense of a fully wired CCTV system, there are cheaper alternatives on the market.

Door Step Theft
At this time of year, we see a huge surge in door step theft. This is where parcels that have been delivered and left on your door step or porch get stolen.
This is actually starting to become a real problem for delivery firms.
Most now require a recipient to be home to sign for the package or in other circumstances you can opt for the parcel to be delivered to a local pick-up point, left with a neighbour or in a safe place, at your own risk.
Yale Smart Delivery Box
Yale have released a new product to combat this problem, the Yale Smart Delivery Box.
This product is the perfect “safe place” to keep parcels locked securely away until you return home.
Just simply give your local delivery driver the pin code and he can lock your parcel away securely. You can opt for a unique code for that particular delivery driver (you can have up to 20 active pin codes) or set a pin code that will only be live for a 24-hour period.
You can retrieve you parcel via pin code, key card, key fob or smart phone; the choice is yours.
Did you know that around 7.5 million parcels have been lost or stolen since lockdown began?
There’s a large variety of things you can do to improve your home security. You can upgrade your existing locks, possibly to fall inline with the British Standard insurance approved criteria, or opt for the latest in alarms and Cctv.
