Worn or Faulty Cylinders

Do you have a uPVC, composite or timber door that operates via a euro cylinder?

Are are you experiencing difficulty in removing the key when the door is in the fully locked or open position?

If the answer is ‘Yes’, then you may have a worn or faulty cylinder.

This situation is more common than you might think. It usually happens when a euro cylinder has become very old and worn, allowing the key plug to slip out of position without engaging the centre cam properly, resulting in the cam being misaligned and not able to work correctly.

We can fix cylinders in this scenario but in our experience if it’s happened once it will usually happen again, most of the time we suggest a new cylinder. The good news is, the cylinder is a completely interchangeable part that can be replaced easily. You may even want to upgrade your cylinder to a higher security version at the same time?

Here are a couple of jobs with this exact fault we completed recently in #Torquay and #Paignton. As you can see, (highlighted by the red arrows) with the key removed the cam is pointing up away from the body of the cylinder. The other photo shows the correct position of the centre cam, just protruding past the body of the cylinder.
