UPVC Lock Problems

Summertime!!!

As we approach the summer months and the heat starts to soar, please be aware that this raise in temperature can affect the workings of your uPVC doors and windows, causing annoying UPVC lock problems!

Most materials will expand in high temperatures and plastic is no different. Expansion of the plastic can cause your uPVC door to bind and catch the frame, and could even stop it from locking completely! This is more commonly noticed during the heat of the mid-afternoon sun.

In the summer months we all love to keep our patio doors open that lead out to the garden. Allowing that cooling gentle breeze to pass through your home is so refreshing! However the full-length glazed panes can be very heavy and keeping the doors open all day, every day, during the summer months can cause the door to drop, and in-turn foul the operation. This fault can put excess pressure on the mechanism and if left uncorrected can therefore lead to a complete lock failure, then replacement parts would be needed.

All these issues can be fixed very quickly and efficiently at minimal cost if caught early on. This would save the expense of any replacement parts. Although it sounds straight-forward please don’t try and adjust your door without the proper knowledge. Although relatively simple for a professional, the situation can be made far worse by a novice, possibly causing irreparable damage.
