The Award Winning KeyWing

This month I was sent a sample of a very innovative little device called the KeyWing. It simply clips over the head of your existing key to give the user much more purchase. It would be a very cost effective solution for anyone who struggles with poor dexterity in their hands.
This concept was created by London based designer Geoff Rolandson. After witnessing his father living with deteriorating dexterity in his hands and the challenges that it brings physically and mentally day to day, Geoff felt compelled to improve his father’s situation by designing something that could in some way restore his independence. “It was incredibly frustrating to know that a task as simple as opening the front door, is such a challenge to so many people” says Geoff.
Winner of the Design Council Spark Awards and a £65,000 investment from charity Versus Arthritis, the KeyWing was released on the 27th March, helping millions with reduced dexterity to open doors and regain independence.
The KeyWing design has been tested and refined over an extensive period with hands on testing undertaken by Versus Arthritis supporters across the UK. User testing responses have been incredible, with 90% of people saying it significantly helped them to use their keys with ease, and would make a welcomed improvement to their day to day lives.
